Streams require hundreds of plays: On the charts, it takes 1,500 individual streams of a track by a premium member to equal the weight of just 10 people who buy the song. For a free accounts it’s up to 6,000 streams for 10 people who buy the song.

Direct downloads punch above their weight: When you buy a digital copy on iTunes, that single transaction registers immediately as a full, 1:1 paid unit on the ARIA charts. A relatively small group of dedicated fans buying the track on release week can out-chart songs with tens of thousands of passive streams.
